Overview of the three major uses of ductile iron parts
09-18
Ductile iron is a high-strength cast iron material with comprehensive properties close to those of steel. Ductile iron is obtained by spheroidizing and inoculating to obtain spheroidal graphite, which effectively improves the mechanical properties of cast iron, especially the plasticity and toughness, thereby obtaining a higher strength than carbon steel.
Based on its excellent performance, it has been successfully used to cast some parts with complex forces and high requirements for strength, toughness and wear resistance. Ductile iron parts have developed into a cast iron material second only to gray cast iron and is widely used. The so-called "iron instead of steel" mainly refers to ductile iron.
Ductile iron parts are obtained by spheroidizing and inoculating to obtain spheroidal graphite, which effectively improves the mechanical properties of cast iron. The chemical composition of ductile iron parts must ensure that they can meet the specified ductile iron grade and corresponding mechanical performance indicators.
Ductile iron has good impact resistance and ductility. This is because the graphite flakes in ductile iron will be transformed into very fine carbon elements through a special treatment, and these fine carbon elements will enter the gaps of iron elements, which will enhance the physical properties of ductile iron and make it very impact-resistant. Although graphite has no ductility, iron has good ductility, so the combination of the two perfectly inherits the advantages of both, making ductile iron both impact-resistant and ductile.
What are the uses of ductile iron parts?
Pressure pipes and accessories: Because ductile iron parts can be more pressure-resistant than ordinary cast iron pipes during transportation, and are more convenient and quick during construction, it is a good choice to use ductile iron as the material for pipes and accessories.
Automotive applications: Ductile iron is mainly used in the generator part, gear, sleeve part, brake and special device part in the automotive industry.
Agricultural machinery and construction applications: Generally, agricultural machinery needs a long life, and the various components formed by ductile iron can achieve this. In addition, ductile iron castings are also used in some construction projects or bulldozers and cranes used in road paving.
