Introduction to the role and classification of ball mill lining

02-20
The inner surface of the ball mill cylinder is generally equipped with linings of various shapes. The ball mill lining is used to protect the cylinder from direct impact and friction between the grinding body and the material. At the same time, different forms of linings can also be used to adjust the movement state of the grinding body to enhance the grinding effect of the grinding body on the material, which helps to improve the grinding efficiency of the mill, increase production, and reduce metal consumption.

Functions of ball mill lining

1. Protect the cylinder and extend the service life of the cylinder
The lining of the ball mill can protect the cylinder and is easy to replace. It can prevent the cylinder from being hit by materials and steel balls during operation and shortening its service life;

2. Enhance the rigidity of the cylinder and prevent deformation of the cylinder
Since the lining is closely connected to the cylinder of the ball mill, the rigidity of the cylinder is greatly enhanced, effectively preventing premature deformation of the cylinder;

3. It has a lifting effect on materials and steel balls
Since the shapes of the lining of the ball mill are different, including waveforms and steps, when the cylinder rotates, the shape and friction of the lining can transfer energy to the materials and steel balls, which has a lifting effect on them, and gives them a certain potential energy and kinetic energy of throwing, so that they produce a "circular arc-parabola" motion trajectory that meets the requirements of the grinding process, impacting and grinding materials.

4. Classify steel balls
Among the classifications of Ball mill lining, there is an automatic grading liner, which can classify steel balls of different sizes, concentrate the steel balls with larger diameters at the feed end of the ball mill barrel to crush large pieces of material, and concentrate the steel balls with smaller diameters at the discharge end to crush smaller materials.

Introduction to the material classification of Ball mill lining
Most Ball mill lining are made of metal materials, and a small number are made of non-metallic materials. Due to the different motion states of the grinding bodies in each bin, different materials are used to manufacture the linings of each bin to meet the requirements of this working state.

In the crushing bin, the grinding body is mainly impact-resistant, and the lining is required to have impact resistance and wear resistance. High manganese steel (ZGMn13) is generally used as the lining material, which has a certain impact toughness, and when subjected to a certain impact, its surface is cold-hardened, and the surface becomes hard and wear-resistant. However, in use, it is easy to bend and deform prematurely, break the fixing bolts, cause the lining to fall off, and reduce its life.

High chromium cast iron has high hardness and good wear resistance, ranking first among wear-resistant materials. High chromium cast iron is a brittle material, but after proper treatment, it can be made into rough grinding bin lining.

Generally, high chromium cast iron is used in small impact conditions, such as coal mill lining and crusher lining (wear-resistant plate), etc. Its wear resistance is 6-8 times higher than that of high manganese steel, and its economic benefits are significant.

In the fine grinding bin, the grinding body is mainly grinding, so the lining is required to have good wear resistance. Generally, wear-resistant white cast iron, chilled cast iron, medium manganese rare earth ductile iron, etc. are selected.
